Lindy Hop Private Dance Lessons
Lindy Hop is more than just a dance, it’s a connection between two people and the music they move to. The rhythm and flow of this social dance is truly mesmerizing, as partners seamlessly move together in perfect harmony. With a tempo range of 120-180 beats per second, Lindy Hop is a dance that truly comes alive on the dance floor.
Movies such as Hellzapoppin, Day at the Races, Malcolm X, and Swingkids have showcased the incredible aerial stunts (airsteps) that are a staple of Lindy Hop. These seemingly impossible feats are not just for show, but rather an intricate and synced movement with the music. The level of fitness and skill required for these maneuvers is truly impressive, and only performed in a safe and controlled environment, such as the Felines’ Corner jams at the Savoy Ballroom.
The Savoy style of Lindy Hop, as taught by Frankie Manning and Steven Mitchell, is known for its light, gentle, and smooth movement. It’s a style that is powerful, low, and complimentary, creating an intense connection between partners.
Lindy Hop is unique from other Swing styles such as WCS, ECS, Jive, and Rock ‘N’ Roll-Jitterbug, in its movement, partner connection, and musical connection. Take the first step in discovering this dynamic dance with private lessons, and unleash your inner dancer.

Release Your Inner Dancer with Lindy Hop
Get ready to let loose and have some fun with the Lindy Hop – a dynamic and athletic partner dance that will leave you feeling invigorated and alive. Unlike traditional dances that involve a more formal posture, Lindy Hop dancers embrace a performance-oriented and athletic stance that keeps their legs in constant motion. There are two main styles of Lindy Hop – the Savoy style and the G.I. style. The Savoy style is characterized by long, fluid lines, while the G.I. style is danced in a more upright position. But don’t let the different styles limit you – Lindy Hop is all about expressing your unique flair and personality through the dance. Whether you prefer wild and energetic moves, fierce kicks and body movements, or a more smooth and contemporary style, Lindy Hop is the perfect dance form to unleash your inner dancer.
History of the Lindy Hop
Lindy hop, the social dance by excellence, belongs to the swing dances. It also includes balboa and tap dancing as dance styles. But also charleston, bebop, west coast swing. Or boogie woogie or jazz roots. Balls are organised so that the apprentice dancers can have fun. Lindy Hop developed as an African American dance, located partially on the famous Charleston dance. Called for Charles Lindberg’s journey to Paris in 1927, the Lindy Hop advanced in the roadways of Harlem. Regardless of its name, the dance has no “bounce” to it. All things being equivalent, it is smooth and strong without leaping, bopping, or avoiding by the artists. The Lindy Hop has moved a few various moves like East Coast Swing, Balboa, Shag, and Boogie Woogie.
In general terms, lindy hop could be compared to rock, as the music and basic steps are similar; however, lindy hop is danced to less binary, more swinging rhythms. A basic step on 8 beats and a shift of the body weight from one leg to the other on each beat form the fundamentals of this dance. Many figures are then added to the dance: lindy hop remains a demonstration dance where couples of dancers like to show what they can do! This is the jam: a circle forms around the dancers demonstrating. The dance sessions can also be animated and punctuated by a speaker who tells the dancers what to do.
Activity Moves
The characterizing advancement of the Lindy Hop is the swingout. In the swingout, one accomplice pulls the other from an uninhabited circumstance into a shut position while turning 180 degrees, and later swings the accomplice back out to the very first start position. Albeit the Lindy Hop can consist of aerobatic relocations, many advances are exceptionally smooth, precise and entirely in a state of consistency with the music.
The Forerunners of Lindy Hop
He is considered to be one of the fathers of street dance Frankie Manning: the Lindy Hop. His smile lit up an America marked by racial discrimination. His dance steps inspired a whole generation. It was 102 years ago today that Frankie Manning was born in Jacksonville, Florida. Dancing has always been in his blood. Or in his genes. Following a separation, his mother, a dancer, moved with her son to Harlem when he was only three years old. The move changed his life. Because in this district of northern New York, Frankie Manning began to dance. It was a virus.
He added acrobatics and air steps to the dances of the time. He took part in dance competitions where he was spotted. He thrilled thousands of spectators in the streets of Harlem. At the beginning of the 1930s, he joined the Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers troupe and laid the foundations of the Lindy Hop: swing dancing with spectacular acrobatics. Legend has it that this name refers to the aviator Charles Lindbergh, the first man to fly from New York to Paris in 1927. Newspapers headlined that ‘Lindy’ had ‘hopped’ the Atlantic. When a journalist asked him what dance he did, Manning replied: “I do the Lindy Hop”. A myth was born.
The effects of the Charleston and Tap dance are apparent still in the Lindy we do today and the dance is likewise sited to have come from an early form of the Foxtrot. Remainders of more recognized artists like the Cinch, Texas Tommy, Black base and well understood “animal” moves, for example, the Turkey Trot and the Buzzard Lope are in addition communicated. Is fascinating that these came from African social dance culture, and a couple of, comparable to the Cinch was made when blacks imitated and derided the correct dance construction of the whites, which they would then use in their amusement schedules. All of a sudden, the white observers would then replicate the entertainers, and a social dance that linked the separation arose.
The 2 societies found a shared viewpoint, called the Savoy Ballroom in New York. It was here that Lindy was fine-tuned and grounded, and where the “Savoy design” that was to affect the world grew up.
Alluded to as the granddad of all swing moves, the Lindy Hop (or Lindy) is a couple’s dance that started in the mid 1900s. Lindy Hop developed from the Charleston dance and a few other dance structures. Regularly represented as the first swing dance, the Lindy Hop depends typically on spontaneous production by its artists, making it both enjoyable and energetic on the dance floor.
